IT was good to read the article about the 60 years celebrations of the NHS in the Evening News of July 5. After being away, I have just read about it and found it so interesting. We have been so blessed in Britain to have the NHS and I'm sure we're envied by many other countries.
I remember the Old Hospital on Longwestgate. It was so wonderful when the new one was built and opened on Scalby Road. It still is a wonderful hospital and I (along with many others) cannot speak too highly of it.
I have two daughters who trained at the hospital and worked there for many years, and another of my daughters contracted polio when she was four years of age and received physiotherapy for two years at the hospital, so it was so good to read about Miss Sanderson too. I took Carol up twice a week, she used to ride her tricycle and Miss Sanderson was so kind to her, very thoughtful and efficient. The matrons were very strict and thorough and with its own cleaners, the wards were always spotless, plus the sterilisation unit, no MRSA in those days. Thank you for printing the article and may I also give Miss Sanderson very best regards from Carol and I.
