HAVING moved to Scarborough within the last year, I decided to go to the Remembrance Service at the Lifeboat House. Having lost a brother in Iraq, the service is important to me, especially the two-minute silence.
I was really upset when I discovered the "maroon" was fired for what I assumed to be the start of the silence, but instead a bugler played The Last Post.
The silence should be just that – silent. The Last Post should be played afterwards.

ScarboroughJohn Anderson, secretary of the Royal British Legion in Scarborough, told the Evening News the problem was caused by a timing issue. He said there was a misunderstanding between the person firing the "maroons" (actually, special fireworks) and the ceremony at the Lifeboat House.
He said: "Because of health and safety issues the person firing the maroons can't be near where the ceremony is taking place. Technically the person making the complaint is right.
"What should have happened is that the bugler plays the Last Post and then a maroon is fired as the last note is played to mark the start of the two-minute silence.
"This time a mistake was made and the maroon was fired at the start of the last post.
"No disrespect was intended and the situation will not arise again because this is the last time we will be using the maroons because of health and safety concerns."
