CARERS from across the region have enjoyed a holiday in Scarbor-ough, thanks to the Rotary Club.
The scheme, which has been running for a number of years, is based at the Red Lea Hotel in Prince of Wales Terrace.

The most recent group of holidaymakers came from Ripon, Harrogate, Wakefield, Knaresborough, Brighouse, Denby Dale, Bingley and York.

All 14 participants are carers looking after aged or ill parents, partners or children with some form of disability and some have not had a holiday for many years.

The carers are selected by their local Rotary club who transport them to Scarborough and return them after their holiday, with individual clubs paying the Scarbor-ough Rotary Club to organise and run the holiday.

On arrival the carers are given a tour of the town and during their stay see two shows at the Spa theatre, have a tour of the stained glass factory at Cayton and a day out at Sewerby Park.

Organiser Howard Hunter said: “Everyone always enjoys their stay in Scarborough – it’s a wonderful scheme.

“People have a great time on the trips, but none of it is compulsory. If they wish to sit and read a book or simply do nothing that is OK.”

The scheme runs for two weeks each year, involves 32 carers each year, and has been running for about 12 years.
