FUNDRAISERS from Scarborough's branch of the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity were singing and dancing in the rain when they hit the beach to launch the charity's 60th anniversary diamond ball.
And the event gives partygoers the chance to become a diamond geezer, or gal – one of the raffle prizes is a £1,000 diamond, donated by Sizers jewellers, of Huntress Row.
The event’s other star prize is a signed framed photograph of this year’s Manchester United Champions’ League-winning squad – signed by the whole team and manager Alex Ferguson.
The charity’s Michael Streets said: “We normally have an annual dinner but, as this year sees the charity’s 60th anniversary, we decided to pull out all the stops and have the diamond ball. It will feature live bands, dancers and a disco plus a four-course dinner. It’s selling out fast and looks set to be a fantastic event.”
Tickets for the ball, which takes place at the Spa on Saturday September 27, are still available, priced £50. Call (01723) 378111 for more information.
