GENEROUS Yorkshire folk raised more than £1 million towards this year's record Children in Need total.
People in the region contributed £1,201,821 to the national appeal which netted a record £20,991,216.

The East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire area raised £390,931.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need, said: "I am completely overwhelmed by the way the country has come together in support of BBC Children in Need, demonstrating such generosity in these tough times, and I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved."

* Staff and customers at New Look in Scarborough raised more than £120 for Children In Need after a day of fundraising. Every year staff at the store in the Brunswick Centre dress up to raise money for the charity.

Supervisor Shell Holder, said: "We all feel very strongly about this worthwhile cause and urged our customers to give generously. All staff made a big effort but special mention has to be made to Elaine who rented her cowgirl costume and looked fab."
