CHINESE students, currently studying in Scarborough, are being updated daily on news of the "greatest show on Earth" which is currently happening in their home country.
Ten students are spending a year in Scarborough, studying a business degree at the Hull University, Scarborough campus.

They were visited by town crier Alan Booth who spoke to them about his role and the history of the job.

The students say they are glued to the television as they watch the Olympic Games and described the opening ceremony as "magical".

They are proud their country is ahead in the medals table.

Ding Jie, 22, said: "My friends back home are keeping me updated on what is going on and how many medals we have won.

"We are happy to be in Scarborough though," she added.

"We have been to the Rotunda Museum and the beach and it was beautiful."

Bai Bing, 21, said: "I love being in Scarborough. Everyone has been really nice and we have been to some lovely places.

"Obviously it is annoying that we are missing the Olympics but we are very proud of how China are doing and we are supporting them all the way."

Mr Booth said: "I really enjoyed meeting with the students. They asked me plenty of questions and I learnt a lot from them as well.

"It was nice to hear what they thought about the Olympics and they told me that, even though they are supporting China, they are also pleased when Great Britain wins a medal which was lovely."
