Police vehicle not coming along quietly: VIDEO
WALKERS in Scarborough's South Bay last night came across an unexpected attraction – an abandoned police vehicle.
The police car was stuck in pebbles and sand below the South Bay chalets. The car was being driven by a police officer away from South Bay pool towards The Spa Complex, at high tide at 7.45pm when it got stuck and waves crashed against it.
One walker, John Rothwell, 81, from St Helens, Lancashire, said: "Well that car is not getting out tonight. It is well and truly stuck."
Mr Rothwell is a retired policeman and said: "In all my policing experience I never heard of a police car getting stuck in the sand – that's a first. It is very amusing though."
Two police officers returned to the car at 9pm to try and free it. The male and female officers started digging but the car still did not budge.
A police 4x4 car then turned up and successfully towed the car out of the gravel at 9.45pm.
