Scarborough's Clock Tower on the Esplanade is a fine example of Scarborough's Victorian past and as well as being surrounded in beautiful gardens it provided fantastic views out to sea and across the bay.
When Scarborough had the oppurtunity to witness an eclipse of the sun the Clock Tower was an obvious choice.

An almost perfect blue sky over Scarborough gave sky watchers a great view of the partial eclipse .

Scarborough and Ryedale Astronomical Society had set up specially filtered telescopes, and had viewing filters, at their 'star party' near Holbeck Clock Tower for people to view the spectacle.

In this video, John Harper from the Society, describes the eclipse and tells of a forthcoming lunar eclipse.
